We know your privacy is important to you, and our aim with this Privacy Notice is to help you make informed choices about your personal data.  Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, including Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, Anne Ray Foundation, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropic Services, LLC, and their subsidiaries (collectively referred to as “MACP”) have created this Privacy Notice in order to disclose our information gathering and dissemination practices for the MACP website at www.macphilanthropies.org (“Site”).  This Privacy Notice governs your use of the MACP Site.  By using the Site, you consent to MACP’s collection and use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Notice.  If you do not agree to the terms and conditions described in this Privacy Notice, do not use the Site.

Collection of Personal Information

In general, you are not required to provide personal information about yourself in order to use the MACP Site.  When you use the Site, we may automatically collect information directly or through our third-party analytics providers. That information may include your IP address, device identifier, internet-service provider’s name, browser type and language, operating system, and session identification number. This information provides us with broad demographic information on Site visitors, but individual users will remain anonymous, unless you voluntarily tell us who you are.

We may also collect information about you that you voluntarily send to us through email or other forms of communication when you contact us for any reason. This information may include your first and last name, company name, email, address, zip code and any information you choose to provide.

Use of Personal Information

We may use your personal information to gather data and statistics concerning visitors to our Site and analyze such data to look for preferences and trends.  We may also use your personal information to manage and respond to your inquiries concerning our services; for research and development purposes, such as to develop and improve our services or analyze market trends; and for our internal efforts to operate and improve our organization, including the quality of our services, forecasting, and identifying ways we can operate more efficiently or expand our offerings.

Third-Party Analytics

We use third-party providers to collect and analyze information about your use of the Site. These providers may collect information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites and other online services using cookies and other tracking technologies.  You may be able to manage how these providers collect information by changing your browser’s cookie settings.

Cookies

Parts of our Site may use a browser feature called “cookies.” A “cookie” is a small data file that is placed on the hard drive (or equivalent storage device) of your computer (or similar computing device) when you visit a website so that the website can recognize you when you revisit and remember certain information about you.  This can include which pages you have visited, choices you have made from menus, any specific information you have entered and the time and date of your visit.  A “session cookie” expires immediately when you end your session (i.e., close your browser).  A “persistent cookie” stores information on the hard drive so that when you end your session and return to the same web site at a later date, the cookie information is still available. Cookies have not been known to corrupt hard drives or transmit viruses to computers.  In addition to session cookies and persistent cookies, there may be other cookies which are set by websites which you have chosen to visit, such as this Site, in order to provide us or third parties with information.

Cookies help us to be more efficient so we can learn about what content is important to you and what is not.  We may also evaluate and improve our content and services and tailor our Site for visitors, based on other information we collect such as IP addresses, pixel tags, and the type of Internet browser or operating system you are using. This information is collected in the aggregate, but we may tie it to your personal information through use of cookies.

MACP may contract with service providers to provide us with data collection and reports regarding activities on our Site.  These service providers may use cookies on our behalf, receive information about your browsing activity, and store information such as city, state, zip code, and/or email address on our behalf.  Under no circumstances may our service providers use your information other than in connection with providing services to us so that our Site can become more useful and efficient.  If you would like to opt-out of having your information included in or collected by these particular services, please contact MACP at the email address below.

Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies.  However, you have the ability to disable cookies if you wish, generally through changing your internet software browsing settings. It may also be possible to configure your browser settings to enable acceptance of specific cookies or to notify you each time a new cookie is about to be stored on your computer enabling you to decide whether to accept or reject the cookie.  You can also disable or delete the stored data used by technology similar to cookies, by managing your browser’s “add-on settings.” As our cookies allow you to access some of the Site’s features, we recommend that you leave cookies enabled.  Otherwise, if cookies are disabled, it may mean that you experience reduced functionality or will be prevented from using this Site altogether.

Please be aware that if you do not configure your browser, or actively opt out, you will accept cookies provided by this Site.

If that happens, we will use reasonable efforts to make sure the transferee uses your information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Notice.

We may share information with service providers or vendors we have retained to perform services on our behalf.  These service providers are contractually obligated to protect such information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Notice and are contractually restricted from using or disclosing the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or to comply with legal requirements.  We may disclose information about you in the following circumstances:  (i) if we are required to do so by law or legal process; (ii) to law enforcement authorities or other government officials as required to comply with an authorized legal request; or (iii) when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of others, or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity.

It may be processed by staff operating in these locations who work for us or service providers or vendors we have retained to perform services on our behalf. If you live outside of the United States, you understand and agree that we may transfer your information to the United States. U.S. laws may not afford the same level or protection as those in your country. By using this Site, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing.

MACP will retain your personal data as needed to maintain this Site and as necessary to comply with our records-management policies.  We may retain your personal data if such retention is reasonably necessary to comply with any legal obligations, meet any regulatory requirements, resolve any disputes or litigation, or as otherwise needed to enforce this Privacy Notice and prevent fraud and abuse.  If requested by a law enforcement authority, we may also retain your personal data for a period of time.
