Skagit Valley College Dental Therapy Program receives $1 million grant

MOUNT VERNON — The Skagit Valley College dəxʷx̌ayəbus Dental Therapy Program received a $1 million grant from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.

The dental therapy program is a joint effort with the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. It was launched in September 2022 with support from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.

According to a news release, the grant will help reduce student barriers to success by focusing on services such as financial aid, tutoring and faculty education in inclusive practices and cultural competency.

An inclusive learning community will be mandatory for all program faculty, and aims to ensure students are a part of a culturally competent and supportive learning environment.
