
Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP) announced that Shamla Naidoo has been appointed to the Audit Committees for Margaret A. Cargill Foundation and Anne Ray Foundation, both operating under the umbrella of MACP.
Shamla brings a deep understanding of the intersections of risk and innovation from her hands-on experience as a corporate executive and later in advising organizations and their boards for more secure outcomes. Her career spans four decades, six continents, and a variety of industries, all with a common focus on technology, cybersecurity, risk, and the law.
Shamla has an active retirement portfolio and serves on multiple boards. Her previous experience includes serving as Managing Partner for IBM, advising CEOs, board members, and executives on digital transformation, innovation, and strategic risk management. She was the Global Chief Information Security Officer for IBM, safeguarding systems, technology, intellectual property, and the brand. Prior to her work with IBM, Shamla held C-suite and executive roles for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, WellPoint, Northern Trust, and ABN AMRO.
Through her role on the Committees, Shamla will assist the MACP Boards in their responsibility to protect the organization’s assets and maintain the financial credibility that is essential to fulfilling its charitable mission. Her background will position her to partner effectively with other committee members to ensure threats are considered proactively and to oversee the integrity of accounting, auditing, and financial reporting practices of the organization.
An adjunct faculty member for the Center for Information Technology and Privacy Law at the University of Illinois at Chicago Law (UIC Law), Shamla is an active member of the World 50, the Security 50, and the National Association of Corporate Directors as well as an ambassador for Cyversity, working to foster inclusion in the cybersecurity workforce.
Shamla has degrees in jurisprudence, management information systems, and commerce.
