Stuart P. Tobisman

Stuart (Stu) Tobisman is a board member of the Anne Ray Foundation and Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. Stu served as Ms. Cargill’s estate planning lawyer, and along with others had the opportunity to document Ms. Cargill’s philanthropic goals and philosophy of giving.

A partner of Loeb & Loeb LLP, an international law firm, Stu is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office. His law practice has focused on trusts and estates, philanthropy, and tax. In that capacity he represented Margaret A. Cargill in connection with her estate and philanthropic planning, and assisted with settlement proceedings of her estate.

Stu’s philanthropic background includes service as a director of California Rural Legal Assistance, a trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, founding chair of the Warren Christopher Scholarship Fund, and President of Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono legal services program.

Stu grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Detroit public schools. Stu served on active duty in the U.S. Navy before graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in economics. He earned his Juris Doctor from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.
